Why You Should Be Awkward

Being awkward is more than just standing there and starting a conversation about the obviously nice weather outside.

Im talking about being awkward when you need to get shit done.

Ask the weird questions, being random, don’t be afraid to be the odd-one-out.

If you want to be like everyone else, then ignore this post. But if you’re someone who is different, and I know you are, then read this through.

Prime Example

I was at a local shopping area and needed to get work done. I had all my gear and equipment with me, but no battery life on my Macbook. #useless.

It frustrates me when I know I can work, but I don’t have the resources to do so.

So, I checked every possible coffee shop (read: The Importance of Place) for a table and a wall plug. The mall was insanely busy. There are 4 coffee shops in this mall and none had a single table free, let alone a wall plug to sit beside…

So I got creative.

I looked inside Lindt Chocolate store ,of all places, and realized that they had tables set up for a mini cafe of sorts. The best part? Not one sole in the building. To top it all of, they had a wall plug…

So I went into the line with all the chocolate loving fanatics. When it was my turn, I went up to the counter with no products and kindly asked:

“I know this is super random but I just need a place to work for a couple hours. Can I sit at your tables and use your wall plug?”

Not only did she say YES, she also offered me water and a free chocolate!

Okay, sounds lame?

The premise of my story is that if I didn’t have the courage to ask such an awkward and silly question, I wouldn’t have worked on anything, and more importantly, I wouldn’t have gotten free chocolate!

Be awkward, be silly, and be you.
